Windows root system32 ntoskrnl exe file
I found the corrupt file, ntoskrnl. It was 0 kb so I'm guessing something messed it up I know I also have my recovery disk in. The only ntoskrnl file on my recovery disk is ntoskrnl-dl.
WHat do I do from here? Reboot the computer, as the computer is starting you should see a message to press any key to boot from the CD. When you see this message press any key. Select the operating system you wish to fix, and then enter the administrator password. Once completed type exit and see if issue is resolved. If after trying all of the above steps you are still encountering the same issue it's likely that Windows is severely corrupted and it is recommended you reinstall Windows.
This problem can occur on any Windows operating system prior to Windows 7, on both bit and bit platforms. This problem occurs because during a small time frame, key presses may cause a part of Windows initialization to fail. This problem does not cause any corruption or data loss, and the ntoskrnl.
To work around this issue, do not press any keys during startup until the Windows startup screen is displayed. Thanks for your feedback. Depending on the the speed of your system, the size of the volume, the amount of data on the volume and what chkdsk finds to do, it may take a long time for chkdsk with error correction to complete several to many hours or it may appear to be 'stuck'.
Be patient. If the HDD light is still flashing, chkdsk is doing something so don't interrupt it. It will finish eventually one way or the other. Keep an eye on the percentage amount to be sure it is still making progress.

Report abuse. Details required :. Its not a big list as a mater of fact the first word on the list is the word 1. Normal Look down the list and you should see 7. Drive Diagnostic or something like that click on it and your hard drive's name should appear. It may take serveral minutes after that for the results to appear.
It'll seem like nothing is happening but just be patient its working. When the diagnostic has finished betcha its going tell you that the drive failed. I couldn't figure out what was wrong when this happened. I tried everything to the point that even my keyboard stopped working. Nothing would type. This of course had something to do with my systems bios which apparently was related to the failure of my harddrive. I don't know much about computers but when something goes wrong with it I take note of it and and find out everything my little female brain can take in.
I'm a single mom so money's tight and I had to wait several months before I could afford to get another hard drive. I had someone replace my dead 40G with an 80G and started from scratch. Trust me there's nothing you can do except replace the hard drive Hope this info helps you and others in the future.
