User profile disappears windows xp

Welcome to our community! I logged in to another account with added Admin priveledges which has no password created much after original. This profile had no password so not affected. I then tried to remove the password - The both accounts showed but mine still requested a password which none of the password options old or new would work.

Then another reboot caused My main profile to disappear completely - which is worrying as all my invoices backed up about 3 months ago is there. I would try a system restore but this has failed the last 2 times I tried for other unrelated issues what causes that? Main question how to recover profile or documents etc in profile? Similar happened months ago but changing password worked that time.

We did this because we only wanted to give him elevated privileges temporarily. We have done this 3 different times at least. This last removal from the Domain Admins group was fatal. First to check on the computer is the shadow copies, you might have the profile in the shadow copy, then work your way through the Folders in the workstation and also check the group membership.

So it turns out it was an AD membership combo that killed his profile. He was part of the Domain Guest and Domain Admin group. When we removed him from the Domain Admin group the Domain Guest group kicked in. I gave him the Domain Guest permissions because it gave him the ability to add computers to the domain.

I needed a solution that wouldn't give him the keys to the kingdom. Yes he's in IT but is not a Sys Admin. Connect and share knowledge within a single location that is structured and easy to search. Yesterday on of my users reported that when he logged in he got an error stating "Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Today the exact same thing happened again.

How to I permanently fix this problem? This is a local profile on Windows XP. Our domain controller is Windows Server Does anything show up in the Windows Event log for when the user logged out yesterday after you restored his profile , or today when he got the new profile? Does the machine have UPHClean. UPHClean will help processes unhook from the registry on logoff, and add useful entries to the event log. These entries may help you troubleshoot what is causing the profile corruption.

You should also try running chkdsk, it's possible data corruption is caused by a problem with the hard drive. There are two methods to deal with this. The first is go into the user profile and delete the file ntuser. Only occasionally have I been able to recover with this method. Windows will create a new profile for them then you can copy the users files back in. Sign up to join this community. The best answers are voted up and rise to the top.
